Leading Nova Scotia Company Nautel Welcomes the World
2009 marks a significant year for both Nautel and the Laser sailboat. Nautel, a Nova Scotia based company, is celebrating its 40th anniversary as a leading designer and manufacturer of AM and FM broadcast transmitters, navigational beacons and industrial radio frequency (RF) products. Nautel has been named Nova Scotia’s ‘exporter of the year’, and their award winning products are well known and used around the world. The Laser, a Canadian designed dinghy sailboat, is also celebrating its 40th anniversary as one of the world’s most popular and highly competitive sailboats. Nautel and the Laser not only share an anniversary milestone, they also share a passion for excellence. “Becoming a title sponsor to this extraordinary event seemed like a natural fit for us,” said Peter Conlon, President, Nautel. “It’s our 40th anniversary and while we’re proud to have built a significant international presence, we still remember our roots here in Nova Scotia. This world-leading event gives us the chance to wave our local flag and be part of a historic Championship.” The Worlds will be one of the largest sailing events in Canada, with 580 athletes from 65 countries competing on the waters of St. Margaret’s Bay. This is the first Laser World Championships to be held in Canada in 28 years. Events will take place from August 17 to September 5. “We are thrilled to have a world-leading, international company, based in Nova Scotia, as the title sponsor for these World Championships,” says Barbara Pike, co-chair of the 2009 Nautel Laser World Championships.
